The bottom line is the property is playing games with upgrade pricing and using pressure tactics to sell upgrades that would otherwise go as Globalist upgrades. I doubt you're really fine with that (noting your comment about being "mad" the first time you ever hear a Globalist doesn't get a comp upgrade).
Let me clarify, I'll be mad if a Globalist says they booked the base room and an upgrade was available and they didn't get it. We can't use a SUA there so we have to rely on the upgrade. So far, reports are every Globalist has gotten an upgrade to either the OWV or the Beach Pool Villa.
They are just telling you that if you don't pay extra, you might not get an upgrade, isn't that true at every hotel? If you feel that's pressure, it is what it is, you have to book the room you're okay with and be happy if you get an upgrade. Everyone gets the upsell email and the price list when you book, so we all have a chance to either pay or roll the dice.
But I'm telling you so far every Globalist has reported that they got the 1 class upgrade to the OWV or 2 class upgrade to the Beach Pool Villa, so roll the dice or pay, simple
