The direction of the domestic F seat
Flew the latest seat for the first time yesterday. I must say that I don't like the direction of the seat design, etc. Each refresh seems to take away more space. It feels significantly more cramped from a width perspective, leg/knee room, the stupid divider between the seats, etc. I am 6'3" 280, my wife is 5'3" 110 and even she commented that it felt smaller, more claustrophobic. Honestly, what is the point of the divider? Unless you are a small child, the divider becomes completely ineffective and irrelevant.... it only takes away from width in at the elbow area. Not a fan of the "sliding recline" function although that is just a carry over from the previous "new" seat.
The positive comparing to the previous "new" design is they moved the tray table to the outsides of the seats (where they should have been in the first place) so you can get your tray table out without having to clear everything off of the front area of the middle armrest / drink area. Also, the tray is higher and further from the seat back (more room). In the previous "new" design the tray table would sometimes sit on the top of my legs as it was level with the top of the armrests (which are too low, in my opinion).
The stat I really want to know about is how many inches UA was able to take out of the F cabin to allow for another row of Y seats.... the seat in front of me was literally 1" from my knees and was touching my knees when the seat reclined. I was in row 4 on a 738 and looked back to the first row of Y and they had about 2 feet of leg room. Certainly they could have spaced the F rows another 4 inches to give F passengers more legroom. So, maybe they didnt gain any extra rows in Y, but just gave the extra space to the first row of Y instead.
Its all open to interpretation though... I am big guy and these seats just felt cramped..... for others, it may be just fine. To each their own.
