I think what he is saying is that as long as you redeem whatever the minimum amount of SYW points the website let you redeem (5,000?) you can pay for the rest of a gift card with your SYW card. So you can buy $200 VGC with no purchase fee as long as you redeem some points towards it. It doesn't seem very useful to me since it is non bonuses spend, digital only GC, and you can frequently buy VGC from giftcards.com for less than face value by stacking portals or at face value from Staples when they have a no fee promo going on. I'm not 100% sure what the excitement is about.
