BA Silver/Qatar Baggage Allowance Discrepancy – Looking for Clarification
Hi everyone, I’m hoping for some help with my baggage allowance. I have British Airways Silver status, and I recently booked (via BA) two Avios redemptions from London to New Zealand—one for outbound and one for return—operating with Qatar (also oneworld). As a BA Silver member, I understand that I’m entitled to an increased baggage allowance across oneworld flights.
However, when I look at both booking confirmations, neither shows the increased allowance I’d expect with BA Silver (i.e., extra bag in Economy or additional weight limit in Business). To complicate matters, the outbound booking shows one baggage allowance (30kg), while the return booking shows another (25kg)—both are lower than what I’d normally expect as a BA Silver member.
Could anyone clarify how the baggage allowance should work in this scenario? Is there a known discrepancy between what is displayed during the booking process versus what I’m actually entitled to as a Silver member? I’d also appreciate any tips on confirming allowances with the airline(s) directly or references to official baggage policies that might help - e.g. does this follow the 'piece' system or the 'weight' system?
