now the 2 night stay posted, but the 3 nights stay did not. is there a reason why the stays have to be like this now. the rule does not make sense to me and driving aways a lot business from my side, as I often travel with friends, family and collegues, but obviusly not everybody is staying as long as I am often.

i am close to hitting 40K usd for the ambassador gift, so this is particulary annoying
You can contact Marriott customer support and choose which stay will post, in this case, you can ask for the longer (3 night) stay to be posted instead of the shorter (2 night) stay.

The rule isn't new, it is long standing. The rule is designed to discourage benefit sharing: a Marriott Bonvoy account belongs to one person. Per the rules of the Marriott Bonvoy program, you're not allowed to book stays for other people unless it's part of a single booking that includes you (e.g: booking 2 rooms for 2 nights in the same hotel). If you want to book a stay for someone else, you're expected to contact Marriott and use their gifting process (which is cumbersome) not book it through your own account. In theory, booking a stay for someone else like you've done puts your account at risk (although realistically, Marriott wouldn't take action unless a hotel reported you and that's only going to happen if you abuse the system in a way that is so obvious it can't be ignored).

If you want to book a stay for someone else, book it as a non-member or book it under their Marriott Bonvoy account or book it by calling Marriott. You cannot earn credit for overlapping stays (regardless of the reason) so it is pointless to risk your account by trying.
