You are not viewed as a couple for upgrading. So one may get upgraded but not the other. You should also check where you are on the premium economy list. I would guess you will probably get PY over J, since the PY upgrades to J clear 1st. You can also look at the 2 lists and see where the 1st one on the py list appears in the j list. Overall, good luck, you have a good chance.
So, here's how it played out. There was an equipment change from a 787 to a 777-200 ER. With more seats available, we were both upgraded to J . Unfortunately, such luck on the way home.
