You're misunderstanding, I wasn't referring to my workaround at all, I was referring to this comment of yours regarding the published process:

Now that I have reread your original post and believe I found the issue. It appears the printed URL (http://www.jal.co.jp/jp/ja/inter/wifi-free) caused the code generation problem. The rest of us who used the URL embedded in the QR code (https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/ja/inter/service/wifi/free/ ) didn't have this problem. JAL probably does not want to reprint all the leaflets for cost (or environmental?) reasons, but perhaps a solution would be to update the captive portal to handle both URLs correctly. But I wouldn't hold my breath that the JAL award winning IT department is capable of doing anything like this quickly
Quite possibly, although I did try this on three devices. Admittedly it was the Android device that I was mostly concentrating on because of its WiFi tethering feature that IOS devices lack. The Android device wouldn't scan the QR code, as I already mentioned, unlike the IOS devices, although I couldn't get to the promo voucher registration on the IOS devices either, but admittedly I didn't try as hard on those devices as they weren't my target devices for the service.

I would say that the printed text URL http://www.jal.co.jp/jp/ja/inter/wifi-free page seems quite familiar. Possibly a little too familiar!

It is a good catch of yours if the URL is indeed different: I don't have an decent enough copy of the QR code that resolves. That could well be the bottom of the problem. A tiny typo, confused by the written one only working when already connected to the internet. It certainly adds some clarity.

Thank you.
