Have to go back for an upcoming event at the ExCel. With the opening of the Elizabeth Line, does it make sense to stay closer to central London (e.g., something like Hilton Paddington) or a place like Canopy Hilton (near the Beckton DLR station) or do I just suck it up and stay at the Aloft Excel now that I can easily hop on the Elizabeth Line if I want to spend time in London proper?

My conflict is 3 of the 4 days, I basically will be at the ExCel all day so my gut says it's not worth dealing with getting up early and taking the Elizabeth Line every day in both directions
Since we started this thread the Elizabeth Line ("the Liz") has made an amazing difference to Excel access. Its station at Custom House is the same as the longstanding DLR one, just walk straight in to Excel. The Liz stops at a range of points across London, and has slashed journey times. It's about 10 minutes to Liverpool Street in The City, and just a few minutes more to the stations beyond.

The Aloft seems to have been overwhelmed by the current construction works for the Excel extension, and looks like an island in a building site.
