Compensation For No Hot Water

Hi. We're staying at the Fairfield Inn in the Central Coast of California, Christmas Eve through the 27th. We woke up Christmas morning to find we had no hot water. The warmest it would get was not ice cold. There's no way I was going to take a cold shower. On our way out to visit family, I spoke with the front desk about the situation. She told me that it was Christmas, so there was no maintenance people there that day; they wouldn't be available until the morning, but they could send someone up to look at it in the morning. That's completely understandable. However, this morning, I was told that maintenance wouldn't be available until the following day, the day we're checking out. They've offered to let us switch rooms (it'll be a downgrade, as our original room had a sleeper sofa so our two teenage daughters wouldn't have to share a bed), which we will be doing later when we get back to the hotel.

Two days without hot water is completely unacceptable. Yes, we were able to stay in the room, but we weren't able to get ourselves ready in the room. What do you think we should ask for for compensation?
