Just to be clear because I don't like mixing up this terminology:

Of course you can cancel the return! You can cancel basically any segment on any ticket.

You cannot refund any portion of a ticket which includes non-refundable fare components. After you cancel the return, you have an unused coupon which can be changed to another suitable return flight that pairs with your flown outbound, should you so choose. You cannot get cash.
