Finally someone is addressing this!

Yes, there has been a silent downgrade in catering over the last year which is still not reflected in LA's description and promotion of the Y+ cabin, although I have noticed that they do not highlight the culinary experience any longer.

Thanks to my flight log, I can see that the change on the SCL-GRU (and vice versa) sector must have ocurred somewhere between mid August and early October (curiously, in the middle of the year and not together with the seasonal flight plan change). On the SCL-LIM route, which is just a tad shorter in distance, the "sandwich meal" appeared earlier. Both destinations used to have a decent meal with options, some years ago even including an appetiser or salad. This has now vanished and it is the dreaded sandwich all the way with some ketchup on the side and the bagged crisps. This is not only a culinary insult, but also downright cheap. The only saving grace are the desserts. Albeit small in size, these are generally quite good and do not repeat themselves that often.

I wonder what happens on longer Y+ routes. SCL-GYE must probably be the longest direct one that I could think of from a Chilean perspective and back in late April this year, it still had a proper meal.

I have sent feedback to LA on the catering downgrade on numerous occasions (yes, I am one of those guys who always answers the after-flight questionnaires), but while I have been contacted by them a number of times afterwards, my complaints about the food and beverage in Y+ have been met with complete silence. At least some variation and greens as a side would be a welcome touch. I remember that shorter international sectors like SCL-BUE or GRU-BUE got a salad with chicken, salmon or shrimps back in the days which I found adequate and a healthier choice than what you receive today.

It is a shame to see this product deteriorating, because I really appreciated it in the past. Given that there is virtually no competition on most sectors (just low cost carriers and the likes of AR), I can somehow reenact why LA makes little to no effort to make their Y+ cabin overly attractive, but as a paying customer you feel pretty much underwhelmed and fooled.

For domestic flights, Y+ is still a decent choice (amazed to hear that CGH-SDU still gets a sandwich), even if I have never understood that a wine-producing country / region serves beer, but does not give the option of a glass of wine on their longer domestic routes. For international flights, however, the reasons to select Y+ over regular Y become less and less. It basically is the better leg room and the free seat next to you for me.
