You could try EWR-SIN-CPT.
I tried that one, but 1k desk told me that it would require double the miles for the award ticket. So that was a bit tough.
Did you pay, or use miles?
(PS: they could find SFO-SIN-JNB seats for her in C, no problem. UA metal to SIN, and the SQ metal to S.Africa. But 240,000 miles for one ticket is a bit rough. So we settled on the less favourable dates at 120,000 miles.)
