One option to consider: Delta will check bags through on separate tickets if flying Delta on one ticket, and LATAM on another ticket. What I don't know is whether they'd do it across three tickets - e.g. XXX-ATL (DL); ATL-LIM (LA); LIM-CUZ (LA). At the very least, if you need to position for a flight on LATAM with bags, DL is a good option.
I’’m starting from ATL. I found award space nonstop direct to LIM on their excellent 767 in J 1x2x1 product. It was 1/3 the mileage cost on LATAM vs Delta. Since I’ll have to pick my bags up anyways Sounds like I’ll pickup a cash fare and pick my bags up in LIM and recheck domestically. Thanks all!
