I'm with the OP on this. Kids in J are an absolute nightmare. United gave me a bunch of miles for a disaster toddler from NRT to EWR a few years ago. Sadly, some people suck at parenting.
The westjet idea is a good one. Kid-free flights. I would also pay more for kid-free hotels!
On the other hand, I took an NH A380 F flight from NRT to HNL. When I got aboard, I saw an infant in the seat right across the aisle. Like the quiet Japanese parent, the kid did not make a peep during the flight.
