As I said, multiple times now, the URL at step 6 did not work until I first connected to the internet with the free hour option, and this happened on both of my flights.

I feel that this is an unnecessarily tough crowd on this JAL sub-forum, I'm not sure why people feel the need to be patronising or condescending.
You're not the only one who has noticed that - there are several users in here who view themselves as the authority on JL and are particularly condescending - so usually just come here to read and not post (even the BA apologists aren't this bad). Have 4 legs in J coming up next month though and do appreciate you posting how you solved the issue - will definitely be helpful if I run into it as well!
