I called them up thinking it would be no big deal to move me to a flight leaving two hours earlier which is operated by a 350, and because to book either of them right now is the same number of miles. But no! They want 215,000 more miles which is the difference between when I bought it to the price offered today. I explain it really politely about the aircraft swap and how I’m careful to only book on the A350 routes, so what difference does it make to them. She was nice and asked a supervisor who told me to get lost basically.
You might think that they would like to be a bit more understanding especially with loyal gold members. I can’t see any loss to them in allowing the change, but there is a loss to them in not allowing it in terms of pissing people off yet again
I guess I’ll take my chances and try calling a different agent randomly in a few days to see if I get a different response.
It's frustrating as hell but all too common on the LAX route. I was lucky enough to be swapped onto the A350 in both directions but I'm not holiding my breath that it stays that way - usually see 3 or 4 schedule changes before getting to the day of my flight.
This will likely be my last Virgin flight unless they make changes to the dynamic pricing. It's an absolute mess, especially when considering playing russian roulette with a below par 787 business seat.
