It makes sense, that they put your bag on direct plane. It was to save weight on the hopper. Last time when I flew, there was a problem with plane weight at KWA, which caused one hour delay. They even asked 6 people from the back, to move forward. And these 6 folks were big soldier guys, so it probably made a difference.
I can understand why it would be needed from a weight perspective. But at the same time, UA also knows the Hopper lands at 3am Honolulu time, well after the 11pm baggage time cutoff. If UA makes the decision to do this, they should then also provision a way for someone to be available to get the bags for passengers when they arrive.
I ended up getting a $150 e-cert for the troubles. I don’t think really covers me scrambling around HNL in the middle of the night trying to figure out what was going on, but I consider the matter closed. I do think it is a very pertinent point for anyone flying the eastbound Hopper to be aware of.
