I am (unusually) going to stick up for the airports and fellow passengers here, as I do believe that the Givernment has flip flopped around, resulting in a lot of confusion. I frankly have no idea of the rules anymore, but always have the plastic bag and liquids ready to remove. At Schiphol they have for some time now consistently applied a rule that liquids and laptops stay in bags, and many passengers now seem solicalised with the idea and seem able to navigate security relaitvely quickly (there will always be some that are clueless, but not everyone is a frequent flyer!). My recent experiences of Schiphol security over the last year have all been positive, so over time, hopefully, this will settle down here in the UK too.
