Some of the threads here are indeed frivolous whinges, but if OP's account is accurate, this isn't one of them.
I cannot believe that people are finding excuses for this kind of language.
I get that lots of long-term, loyal frequent fliers hold some sort of defensive nostalgia for BA, but the replies here are dismissive, going beyond banter and bordering on bullying.
You make some good points and taking the OPs comments at face value - well he’s been unlucky enough to have two poor flights six years apart. With that sort of result I probably would take my money elsewhere (assuming there were alternatives). I might or might not have made a complaint, and I’d probably have done it at the time to give them an opportunity at service recovery, though I do get that it’s putting your head above the parapet and a lot of people don’t want to do this.
Unfortunately the OP did blot their copybook slightly in their original post by calling anyone who carried on giving their money to BA ‘idiots’ and telling people to change jobs if their company used BA for travel, instead of just providing the facts. Entirely within their right to give that sort of response and one gets that they were miffed, but they are setting themselves up for some withering comebacks when they say stuff like that. Bullying? I don’t think so. Spirited response to a (previous) spirited post? Probably.
I have no idea whether the OPs account is true. They may well have been a certain level of expectation ‘right BA were rubbish last time so they’d better be brilliant now’ and they have been looking for any excuse to slam them. Equally they may have been unlucky, we’ll never know. But crucially it’s their money so they are free to do what they want with it. Obviously the wisdom of coming on here and putting it all in a (IMO) slightly overdramatised post is questionable but we’re all adults and I’m sure the OP is long in the tooth enough to be be able to rise above the responses.
In terms of defending BA, there are a lot of people on here who haven’t had that sort of experience, but who fly a huge amount, which suggests that it isn’t the norm but that it does happen. Unfortunate and I’m sure the BA staff on here will read it and groan. (Mrs S did - former staff).
Let’s hope it’s a rare event.
