Fwiw there does seem to still be awards available for the direct route, but much greater number of miles than the initially booked award (which was also the case at time of booking).

Any advice or experience would be appreciated. I'm PPro if that makes any difference and the miles were debited from my account even though I'm not on the PNR.

PS this recent article from VFRTW suggests that any change over 16 minutes can theoretically result in requesting a re-route??
