Plan you timing and save. One-month seniors are free each year. Another month children are free.

Membership in one is membership in both, in case there is some confusion.

As to the high cost for some CA zip codes and out of state membership...being there suggests buying food and drink...buying souvenirs...taking upcharge tours and I am told it is really a discount for locals.

As to which is better...generally children under 10 are best at the zoo for closer viewing and simple visiting...for everyone else the Safari Park is better as it IS THE STORY of conservation...IMHO...Both are hilly and suggest a great deal of walking (the zoo tram helps, while the "ride" in Africa at the Safari Park is limited in area. The Safari Park has miles more potential walking. Seniors, or those with walking challenges can "game" the tram at the zoo (get off at the top and walk back down to the lower station). The Safari Park has ADA services, but IMHO they are not great. Both facilities have riding chairs that you can rent. The zoo has sit-down shows. The Safari Park has a zipline, truck rides inside the enclosures, overnight stays in a tent, balloon "view ride", and many special programs. Parking is free at the zoo, and costly at the Safari Park, unless you have a membership that includes it. AND NO you do not drive your care thru the Safari Park, never will, never could.
