There were similar issues with seat selection on my recent BA flight but that was because of an operational hold on the flight, I subsequently found out, as they were swapping the scheduled aircraft from a 788 to a 789. Could it be a different 777 configuration possibly (I've not flown BA from LGW for about 16 years so not sure what configs they have there) or maybe just a temporary technical glitch.
