The exact same thing is happening to me right now. Book my reservation using points on a 25% discount. Now I need to arrive a day later and staying for only 7 nights. l called and even email the hotel in Paris. They can't modify it because I used points and told me to rebook it. I won't do that. If I rebook, I will use more points with a new booking even with less nights. I will keep the reservation as is and notify them that I am arriving a day later.
I will work with IHG back in the US to get the points refunded. I suggest everyone else to do the same when using points overseas.
