Sorry ...this is a bit delayed I'm still catching up on my old reviews....Hilton has a total of 7 different properties in Bali. Among them include the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport; Conrad Bali as well as some of the more luxurious ones that are on the Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) list. Unfortunately as personal circumstances have changed, I can longer afford to constantly stay at the most luxurious hotels.
While some suggest that Seminyak, Canggu, Legian, Berawa, & Umalas are going to be the best places for families, the Hilton Bali Resort, is located in Nusa Dua. Opened in 2016 as the rebranded Grand Nikko Bali. From the outside and from the website, the Hilton does look very nice indeed. What I didn’t realise at the time of booking was there was a lot of construction work going on. I think there was renovation that had been delayed because of covid.
This meant that check in was done in a side part of the building rather than in the reception area itself. As we pull up to the property (and in fact in any major hotel in Bali) there is always a security check. There is nothing problematic with it but after the Bali bombings on tourist areas in 2002, I think they take security quite seriously when it comes to vehicles coming onto the properties.
We were pretty lucky that it was quite quiet and there was only 1 other couple checking in when we arrived. There had been some other reports that had complained about it being crowded but that might well have been after we travelled as covid was still on people’s radar.
Actually the main problem with staying at the Hilton, is that my previous visit to Bali was to the
amazing Mulia Hotel.
Our room was in the main building near reception rather than in the cliff side tower. The rooms were nice enough.

We didn’t have breakfast included as we had other morning plans. But the one morning we did have breakfast it was really great. A huge number of options both international as well as Indonesian.

The hotel has a few pools including lagoon-style with a fake beach. As you can see it was pretty empty so it was really great to be able to use the whole area with virtually no one there. Also there are a few water based sports for people to play. For example there’s water basketball (if that’s the right name).
To the right hand side of this photo was a big water slide and while I think it was intended for kids, I was the one who used it! And actually it did seem like this area was focused on the kids which was fine.
And just beyond the pool to the left of the photo is direct beach access, which was very convenient. Some hotels require you to take a shuttle to the beach. Hilton has it’s own little space with sunbeds and they maintain the area around it to make sure it’s kept clean for hotel visitors.
The pool-side venue sells a bunch of really tasty food. One observation of the pool was there are no lifeguards. When I stayed at the Mulia there were lifeguards everywhere.
The Balinese restaurant Paon was very good. We went there for dinner on two separate occasions.
