Breaking up the trip is how I plan to make it tolerable. I don't do well with long hauls. I think I can save money compared to using business class. But any overnight flight in economy would be painful.
My goal is to travel from Las Vegas to various destinations in Eastern Europe. Along the way, I wouldn't mind spending a night in New York or possibly Boston or Montreal. The idea of also spending time in Porto got my attention (because I have no interest in London or Paris).
I am slowly learning how to make trips fun. Recently, having overnight layovers in Dallas (with American) while traveling from Las Vegas to Montreal was not my cup of tea.

Have you tried the Azores Airlines website? Note that those flights are not operated every day of the week at many times of the year. And the website you read appears outdated. both JFK-PDL and YYZ-PDL are an overnight flights.
I'm not trying to go to PDL. I am trying to go to OPO during the day in order to connect to a different city in Europe (possibly after spending the night at OPO). Yes, I tried the Azores web site with little success.
