Down to the individual, correct. For me, Gold gets use of First Wing which is good because i start most trips at LHR, and use of first class lounges as opposed to the business ones. TBF it’’s not common to get really good use of this because my faces are in SIN and HKG, but the CX lounge at LHR T3 gets a lot of use as well. Other benefits, getting to select row 1 in some configs, and extra reward seat availability. Possibly more chance of op-ups especially if solo, but that’s exceptionally hit and miss.
Certainly though for most people, silver solves a lot of needs/wants.
The real sweet spot for Gold/Silver I find is actually flying in Y on shorthaul. Group 1 and free exit row pretty much guarantees both bags in the cabin. I did about 10 shorthaul returns to LON and Europe this year in Y and status makes it very handy.
I will probably be Silver going forward as I can't justify going for gold without a TP optimised BAH holiday.
As for TP runs I am weighing up doing one if the BAH promo doesn't get extended again. The ex DUB ending in AGP looks like a winner. However I may break my journey up somewhere so will play about with the routings a bit.
