So effectively it's a cheaper way of travelling there in a Premium cabin as well as increasing TPs, rather than a hardcore TP run. So apologies to all those TP runners for this rather 'Lite' affair!
I didn't want to go too mad with the routings and put Mrs S off. We only need 600 points and four flights and this delivers it all in one trip - 640 and four BA flights (six if you count the positioning flights).
I appreciate that we could have added an extra sector to make it 720 but as I said, whilst we both like flying - I don't want to put her off on the first time out!
I celebrate my 60th birthday whilst we're out there and I'm fully retiring very early next year so it's a sort of celebration too.
Booked it through AA in the end which was ridiculously easy. £1320. It did actually show it cheaper - £1240, but it was 'Multiple Airlines' and it was a bit more tricky to book. maybe next time. I also wanted to avoid tight connections and arriving in JFK as I've experienced busy immigration there and I've been led to believe PHL is a bit better.
Just over £2 a TP so not the best value, but we're happy with it. Very enjoyable process searching out the best fares on ITA Matrix.
Job well done there to be honest. If it gets you the TP you need and is within your budget then what else is needed? With regards immigration, I can heartily recommend Global Entry. It will cost about £150 for five years, but the fact you just swan through US immigration means it is money very well spent - more so if you actually go to the US with any regularity.
