As a status matched Diamond, I automatically get access to the exit row seats. I usually fly with my wife and we book "A and C" or "D and F." About 80% of the time, the middle seat stays free (no sane person would pay for a Frontier middle seat, so the flight has to be full for it to be taken).
This has been my experience the last 6 months as well. I purposely pick an upgraded seat that already has one of those taken and the middle seat free, and the majority of the time the middle seat stays empty.
