I am traveling to Europe for a week and a half and made Marriott reservations assuming I'll be able to sign up for Amex Bonvoy Brilliant to get the Platinum status. I was kicking myself for not getting the 185k bonus couple of months ago. Today when I went ahead to sign up with their 95k bonus I was just told that I'm ineligible for bonus due to already applying Chase Bonvoy brilliant card last year. Paying up $650 fee just to get the breakfast seems too much (don't care for other card benefits), so now I'm annoyed how my hotel plans are coming apart. AFAIK I can't even change the reservations to under my spouse name now (for Gold status either). Any suggestions to salvage this.
