Don't fly Iceland Air
I recently flew Iceland Air business class to Europe. Their business class is the worst business class I have ever flown.
All flights from the USA are red eyes. So I called Iceland Air and asked about the seats in business class (they don't have first class). I was told they recline flat. This is so far from the truth it was a crule joke. They obviously cater to the European market and treat the US market as second class. The seats only recline about two or three inches so it means you are almost completely upright for an overnight red eye. It seems to me that they crammed extra rows of seats in. Not all seats are uniformly lined up. The configuration is 2 1 2. There was a tall and large man in row 3 near the window that could not get out of his seat to use the rest room because the seat in front of him was reclined just a couple of inches. If you take a plumb and hang it from the back of a reclined seat it will drop very close to the seat cushion of the seat behind it,maybe even hit it depending on which row you are in.. The big guy had to get out and struggled and struggled and finally made it. He was out of breath. The aisle person next to him volunteered the aisle seat to him on the return or there would have been a problem. He simply did not fit in the tiny space between seats. A normal size person needs to be a contortionist to get in and out.
The staff is great and food meh. Service is fine and the staff tries hard to overcome all of the issues with this plane. Movies and video choices are pathetic. Atmosphere is crowded, noisy, claustrophobic and just horrible. A bit chaiotic. When I walked on the plane I turned to look to the left for a different cabin up front because I could not believe this was even legal seating. I exclaimed to the flight attendant where is business class? But this cabin was it.
Then we changed planes in Iceland for the second leg of the flight from Iceland to Europe. The plan was clean and neat and calm and not over crowded. A more normal business class. Seats did not recline on this flight either. Again the staff was great and the atmosphere was calm and pleasant. A completely different experiance for the European clients.
Found the same on the return. European flights were very civilized. USA flights were horrible. At least the return flights were not red eyes.
I will never fly them again.
