I'm not much of a United frequent flyer, mostly DL and AA based on our flying pattern, but the Mrs and I have several upcoming trips on United next year so I got the United Club card for the SUB and of course the lounge visits. We're on a big trip to NZ next month, purchased through Air NZ but with United metal code share flights within the US. We have a United PNR for our United metal flights.

Back in October I 'spent' 7,500 points to request an upgrade for each of us on our flights CLT-ORD and ORD-LAX. On my reservation page it shows we are waitlisted, and clicking on the hyperlink I get a pop up that says "You will be automatically confirmed on this flight if space in your request class United First (PZ) becomes available." There's 3/4 of the cabin still empty on each leg; is there any chance we'll see an upgrade, or will they all go to the high status folks?
