Hawaiian Airlines will start assigning all seats for its interisland flights March 1, after running tests it said showed assigned seating made boarding faster and more orderly. Hawaiian’s Premier Club members, Pualani Platinum and Gold frequent flyers and other preferred customers who fly coach will be assigned seats closer to the front of the aircraft.
Aloha still uses unassigned seating for interisland flights, although its frequent flyers get to board first, as well as customers who need assistance. An Aloha spokesman said the airline isn’t considering assigned seating because its customers are not demanding it. He also said unassigned seating helps with the quick turnaround times required for the interisland service. Aloha did try assigned seating in 1984, but it didn’t stick.
