But I recall (do I dare say) as "recently" as 1994.... I was hired as a front-line employee at a major U.S. airline....not a flight attendant... but a ticket agent....

As a male front-line employee.... NO tattoos.... NO facial hair... definitely NO visible piercings... NO hair below the neck line.... and quarterly weight checks.... as a 5'6 male.... I could not weigh over 145.

I know times have changed and it all sounds old fashioned to some.... but that's how it was as recently as 1994.
