Likewise I would have a back up hotel booked.
last may i had an alternative hotel booked to the new doubletree kyoto station incase that hotel did not open on time( 2weeks prior to arrival). In any event the dt kyoto opened on time so cancelled the other one.
whilst I have more confidence in Japanese hotels opening on schedule osaka in April just after the expo opens is likely to be expensive
