How long between bookings? An hour? A day? A week? A month? Rates fluctuate daily, sometimes even multiple times a day.

So booking at 4pm on a Tuesday can be vastly different than booking at 5pm on a Friday of the same week.

You say to make sense of that, by opting to make separate reservations, at separate rates, rather than one continuous booking.

In practice the hotel will merge them internally at check in, either automatically or upon request. If it’s less than 7 nights total then your GOH would apply to the entire stay.

Well, I had 5 nights booked at Andaz Papagayo, I booked prior to the Category change, all nights were booked on points. We applied a SUA to the reservation. Then a couple months later (after the Category change) we added an additional night on points. All nights were available in the suite, but we would not have minded moving rooms if needed.

Hyatt contacted me closer to the check in date to notify me that I would need to pay an additional 25k points, in essence 55k total for the 1 extra night (30k at the new price, plus 5k per night for the re-pricing of the original 5 nights). I asked if there was any way around this, even if we opted to switch rooms the last night if needed. They said flat out no, and I would just have to pay 55k total, this was MHC by the way. At that point I said I’d just sadly like to cancel the additional night. It felt like MHC didn’t even want to let me cancel, but I was persistent and eventually was able to cancel the last night.
