Yep, it can be confusing in the event of an equip swap. Once had a 772 swap to a 77W, but they were convinced there wasn't an aircraft change even though my J seat was still 10L and didn't get changed for 10J. Boarding was slow as they had to reprint half of the J pax's BPs.

You've listed several that AA doesn't operate anymore, but even so, the last version of the 763 before its retirement was 1-2-1, A-DG-J. And before that, I believe the 763 was 2-2-2, not 2-1-2 as you list.
