Yep, it can be confusing in the event of an equip swap. Once had a 772 swap to a 77W, but they were convinced there wasn't an aircraft change even though my J seat was still 10L and didn't get changed for 10J. Boarding was slow as they had to reprint half of the J pax's BPs.

The major remaining inconsistency is the 777 fleet. On the 77W, the starboard side in First and Business is seat J whereas on the 77E, it is L.
And the right side center seat is G vs H
