Last week I made two more stays on two different dates at Palazzo Caracciolo. For both dates the rate was 109 euros for a single bedroom, a figure that I consider correct for this hotel.
The first stay was on a Saturday and in the App I noticed an upgrade to a King Deluxe, but for the online check-in I was only offered one room, overlooking the internal courtyard, so I preferred to go to reception. I arrived around 2pm and a Neapolitan style wedding was taking place in the hotel with at least 200 participants occupying all the common areas of the hotel (bar, restaurant and the two internal courtyards). The pomp of the participants, with sumptuous clothes but without a minimum of class, reminded me of the film "The Godfather" (and being in Naples I asked myself a few questions about who was taking part in the wedding given that in the car park outside the most beggarly car was a Porsche 911 GT3 RS). Since the room assigned to me overlooked the internal courtyard where the party was taking place and the noise was unbearable, I asked for a room on the street side, where the noise, although annoying, would have been more bearable. Received a further upgrade to a King Deluxe with sofa bed, room very hot even with the window open. The Diamond gift was a small Pulcinella mask. Breakfast as usual, with the choice of various Neapolitan specialties and made to order coffee and cappuccino.

Second stay a few days later. Upgrade again to a King Deluxe room with sofa bed. Since the hotel has been in the Hilton portfolio (since the beginning of the year) in 4 stays I have always had the same upgrade, never a Junior Suite, which instead I always received in the past as an Accor Gold member when the the hotel was a MGallery.
On the App there is again only one choice for online check-in and for the second time for a room overlooking the internal courtyard where the restaurant is located, therefore, to avoid surprises, I still go to the reception for check-in. I ask if there are any noisy events planned in the hotel, but I am confirmed that everything will be quiet and so I accept the room overlooking the courtyard, which I am told is a recently renovated room. Much smaller room than usual, but with brand new and very pleasant furnishings. Big screen TV right in front of the bed. Bathroom with shower only. Diamond's gift this time is a small red horn for good luck. Room still very hot, even with the thermostat off and the window open.

In the evening I go out with colleagues for dinner and after-dinner drinks and return well after midnight. The plan is to skip breakfast and, thanks to the late check-out, wake up late and go to the airport to return home. Unfortunately my plans don't come true: at 8 sharp the pianist goes into action to cheer up the breakfast guests, but finding himself right under my window he wakes me up against my will (moreover I had already woken up at 7 due to the rehearsals he had done ).
While I appreciate the touch of class for the few guests at breakfast (it's the first time in many many years I've found a pianist playing live at breakfast) I don't think the poor guests who, despite themselves, had to put up with the concert were equally happy (and I think of the Air France crew with whom I spoke after midnight upon their arrival at the hotel).

At check-out I obviously complain but in pure Neapolitan style I am ignored (just as my email sent to the GM is ignored).

To conclude, my advice is to choose this hotel only if the rate is so low as to compensate for the inevitable inconveniences that will almost certainly arise.
