About AA, I haven't read their fine prints about SDC but I do know that routing/same city airport changes are not permitted. In my previous experience, I did twice SDC from JFK-LAX and once LAX-JFK, and I vividly remember the fare on the new flight changed from my original "I" to "J" and "C". Now, the LP crediting remains the same as the fare booked, but at least the SDC options were available and do-able.
Edit: I just went on to read the fine prints on AA.com, and nowhere do they mention fare class restrictions and nothing restrictive for status holders.
