In practice if one was attempting to circumvent Hyatt’s policy -

Book 3 nights on points, apply CAA, then after CAA is applied go online make another reservation for the last night using the Free Night Certificate.

This would have the greatest chance of success, but again it is against Hyatt’s policies.
Yeah, well, what percentage of the Hyatt membership knows this rule? I didn’t until I came across this thread, and I would bet I am not alone in this. And there are probably people who have booked these types of reservations without being aware that it is against some obscure. Maybe their plans changed and they needed another night. Or maybe the cert hadn’t posted yet when they made the original points booking.

(note that I am not arguing that the club benefit should apply to the free night cert booking. The property should be free to enforce for limitation for that night. But what’s the reason for the restriction on those certs anyway? If I had to guess, it’s some technical limitation of Hyatt’s IT system that can’t handle more than one type of award for a give night)
