Had an award ticket LAX-LHR last year on UA for our little one and we were booking it separately. Agent needed to note that the minor was traveling with parents (us), and we couldn't check in online, but once we showed the agent at LAX that she was traveling with us, we were able to obtain a boarding pass for her.
