This is a weird one. We only got boarding passes to JFK but our trip is SEA-JFK-GRU-POA. Bags were tagged to GRU and not POA (like usually). They told us we don’t need to leave security at JFK to get the other boarding passes but we need to change terminals from 7 to 8.
This is on an American Airlines ticket. GRU-POA is on Gol.
You will have to reclear security at JFK in any case because there is no airside connection between Terminals 7 and 8.
Since you have to reclear security, the best option in this case (unless you have a very tight connection or more luggage than you can carry) would've probably been to have AS tag to JFK and then re-check them with AA at JFK.
