The Sheraton Grand in SYD my go to hotel does a good job too
but it’s been only in the past few years it vastly improved to the credit of their chef Duncan and his team
And a fair refresh of the dining room and buffet items variety
But quality of baked goods I would still give the nod to the W
Much of the pastry is made to far in advance @ the Sheraton and for me it’s a turn off to have
refrigerated days old pastry.I suppose they have to produce more volume with the amount of guests they have to feed
But I also find less reason to overeat @ The Sheraton
Sheraton is the best value in the city for what you get and even with my criticisms
I wish there was something like it in every city I visit
100% agree with this. The Sheraton is my "home" in Sydney too - high level of professional service that rarely falters, they treat their regulars well, and if you have access to it, the executive lounge is in a class of its own. Fairly low staff turnover, particularly in the restaurant (Chef Duncan as you mentioned, and many of the servers), I think helps keep the experience very consistent. I still miss the old brand of granola and muesli they used to carry, and warm bread pudding and gelato at breakfast, and yeah, the pastries are not generally worth going for (frozen food service pucks they just bake off), but otherwise its my go-to as well.
