The menu didn't say 100th anniversary Hibiki on my flight in question, however another poster helped with that. The link you gave for the Hibiki doesn't relate to that offered on board I'm afraid, as it's not the Harmony blend.

What are your experiences of these and how they compare to Scotches such as Lagavulin, Talisker or Caol Ala, for example?
Sure, the Hibiki is garbage I wouldn’t feed the rats who eat my trash. It’s a cynical attempt by the House of Suntory to exploit the legendary Hibiki name with a vastly inferior product. I would only drink AS Hibiki. I would drink NAS Hakushu and Yamazaki, however. So on JL I would ask for that from J class if god forbid the Ichiro’s ran dry.

The Ichiro’s is world class. I’d drink this until it wasn’t possible to drink more.

Neither would really match the peaty styles of Talisker or Lagavulin. The JL offerings would be more balanced blends, but I would still drink both with one large rock. They are optimized for smoothness.

If I curated airline menus I would not serve smoky scotch or whisky at altitude.

Caol Ila has too many verticals to know which flavor profile you enjoyed.

Slàinte mhath and kanpai, Howard.
