I have a ton to think about. I think no matter what we end up doing it will be great - I have never been to Japan but just seeing how things flow and experiencing something quite different makes a successful trip.
I am working on the theory of osaka as a base. I was thinking of staying at the moxy Honmachi - it looks like it is nearer to nightlife? Now I have a few questions:
1. Would there be an onsen in Osaka that would be a good choice?
2. How difficult is it to get to Kyoto from Osaka? Do I even want to try a day trip?
3. I have heard that credit cards are not really widely used in Japan and that i should count on using cash? Are ATM's the best to get cash if this is the case?

3. ATM for cash, depending on fee applied by your bank relative to the amount. Look into IC cards like Suica.
