Hi, I posted a TWOV query on a related thread, not realising there was so much help and wisdom here. Basically, I'm flying LHR to AKL with a 48-h transit in PVG next week. I ask this as a long-haul novice who hasn't flown a route like this, solo, before. The whole TWOV is giving me the heeby-jeebies a bit. Basically what I have gleaned from above posts is that 99% of the time, you'll be fine. Practically, could someone tell me what to expect at LHR and at PVG immigration? Presumably the proofs of onward flight and accommodation are required at check-in (not the boarding gate); and the Shanghai passport control would be a formality?
My concern as an inexperienced solo flyer, is when taking all possible precautions and still running a small risk of coming unstuck, perhaps if ground staff are themselves unsure of the rules.
