I have the virtual Suica card on my iPhone. There is an ongoing issue with being able to top up the card from within the apple wallet when using a foreign credit or debit card - I can’t top up using my UK Visa debit or Mastercard credit cards. Some folk have had better luck with US issued cards or different types of cards - there was a thread on it. The workaround is to use the cash machine at 7/11 to withdraw money using your card and then deposit this money onto your IC card, tapping your phone onto the bit you would a physical IC card to add the money once you’ve put it back into the machine.

Apart from that 1 minor inconvenience - it only takes a coupe of minutes to top up at the cash machine in 7/11 - the virtual IC cards work great. You just use your phone to tap on and off the subway, local trains, busses etc.
