I just did this yesterday as I'm bringing skis from the US to Italy next week. I just called the regular US number (800-AIRWAYS), chose the option to change my booking, and the agent who answered had it handled in 5 minutes. She needed to know the dimensions, weight, and color of the bag - it was very straightforward.
