The ultimate answer is that unless OP is planning to fly UA to TPE, it won't be possible to utilize a UA credit for a BR flight.
I have flown MNL-BR-TPE-UA-SFO as the return half of a round-trip UA ticket. (Outbound was via HNL & GUM.) This was before the SFO-MNL nonstop.
