Premium economy/standard economy price comparison

I posed this follow up question in another thread I had started, but thought I would repost on a separate thread as it didn’t necessarily follow the original question. I’ve been looking at prices for an upcoming trip in September for a family of three adults. The cost (using an AARP discount) of a Premium Economy seat going from IAD to GLA connecting at LHR and a Standard Economy seat choice coming back averages out to about $1500 pp (including the seat purchases for each leg). It would be $350 more than if I chose standard economy thru AARP discount for the entire trip. I am uncomfortable paying the $1800+ (before seat choice cost) for PE both ways. If I booked through BA, rather than thru AARP and selected the basic economy and chose our seats, it’s almost $450 more to go with PE/SE. I don’t see an option doing that basic economy with AARP.

I haven’t used a premium economy seat, so really don’t know how much more comfortable it is. But, I am seriously considering it to try and be more comfortable. My question is do you all think that the $1500 price point is too high? It seems high to me given that it is just for the red eye portion-7 hours, but I have no experience with this so…I wonder if there will be a drop during the January sale, too.

I would greatly appreciate getting any feedback from you all on this as I make a decision. Thank you all for your time and thoughts!
